He started his academic and political career in the J & K State and played a notable role in the defence and accession of the state to India in 1947. Later, he acted as the right hand man of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherji in the formation of the Bhartiya Jan Sangh in 1951. He also scripted the first manifesto of the Bhartiya Jan Sangh as its founder Secretary.
